[Trial Failed] Grishli, Guardian

Postby Ildrahn » Sat Sep 26, 2009 12:58 am

**important**
Before you might disregard this application I'd like to firmly state that I'm not looking for free boosts, gold, items and such.
I'm here because I am an experienced raider, friendly person and social guildmember (at least: in my previous MMOs - but that will not change of course).
I will do my best to level both character and professions but this is not my main goal at the moment. I want to enjoy the game first.
I'm experienced enough to level at a nice pace so that'll come.
Other than that, hope you will appreciate my honesty and after reading the rest please feel free to ask more.
-----

About Your Character
Name: Grishli
Level: 1 (At moment of application - I'm new here)
Race: Dwarf
Class: Guardian

Professions:
1. None as of yet.
2. -
3. -

What do you see as your character's role in a group?
I'm a social person. I like to attend guild (Kinship) activities as well. I do however need to state I'm more into PvE and the endgame content. But apart from this: I will always offer my help when needed as I'm a very generous and friendly person myself.

About Yourself
Name: David
Age: 27
Country: The Netherlands
Online Times: Between 10 AM and 1 AM (Central European Time)

Why do you want to join Nemo Nisi Mors?
I saw the advert on the lotro-europe site and was blown away by the website and the content especially. You seem very serious yet friendly gamers. Everything that I read was what I needed to find in a guild/Kinship. So this seems the perfect environment for me to grow. To learn.

Can anyone in Nemo Nisi Mors vouch for you?
Unfortunately not.

Have you played any other MMO's? (If yes, which?)
Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, Warhammer and Age of Conan.

Do you have any previous raid experience?
World of Warcraft: All raid instances in the game. And I mean all. I really enjoyed it. Ventrilo, glass of coke, a smoke, my friends and a few hours of serious fun and progression.

Could you tell us a little about yourself?
I'm 27 years of age and finished my high school in 2000. Did study English for a while until I got ill unfortunately. I'm still ill (for 4 years now) but I'm still trying to look for a solution. I will tell more about this if I get to know you better. Apart from this I like to produce music: industrial/darkcore/electro/dark ambient/experimental and such. Also got a project running with a friend of mine, I also like to play bass guitar. I love french fries with, yes, mayonaise.

Hi David!

Great application. Few follow up questions, to get a better picture;

  • You say you are level 1, which means you've literally just arrived. Are you already sure about the game? We have no problem with people levelling up while they are in the guild. In fact, we prefer it in most cases as it generates far more loyal members than simply recruiting level 60's.
  • Are you sure yet about the class you want to play? If you have your mind set on a Guardian, could you explain why? This helps us evaluate how you'd potentially fit in, would we consider taking you onboard!
  • Where did you hear of us? How did this appeal?
  • How do you see yourself progress in the game, and in the guild? What do you see as your long-term role?
  • Could you tell us a little about the other games you played, the guilds you were in and why you ultimately left?

After done all the endgame content in Wrath Of The Lich King and seeing that the community turned into some sort of place where 12 year olds could troll around and level as fast possible disregarding the fellow player searching for "epic l00t" to make their toon look even more amazing I had enough of it. My love for the MMORPG genre will never cease to exist. But I'll only play in a mature and dedicated environment - both guild and game wise. Since I have every (and I mean every) single book of J.R.R. Tolkien and really loved they way Peter Jackson amazed me with the epic The Lord Of The Rings trilogy this was only a logic step to take. I did however forgot to mention that I played LOTRO at the launch but quit not long thereafter when my World of Warcraft raiding guild started again during The Burning Crusade. Reason? Well, they were my friends. Couldn't leave them behind now could I? I'm a loyal and dedicated player as well and I'm not here to moan about how awful World of Warcraft is since it does have an appealing factor. I think you do have to agree with me on the fact that LOTRO and WoW are two completely different games. Nonetheless, I finally decided to leave permanently and here I am...

To be quite honest Abishai, no I'm not sure playing the Guardian class. And it's a good thing you brought this up. I am only playing for guild progression (in any shape or form - primarily raiding once I get there ofcourse). Thus I'd play a class you are short of in the guild (I'll call it Kinship from now on - my apologies). I like to play anything really but in WoW for example I always played the healer. Holy Priest, Restoration Shaman, Restoration Druid. I also tried to play a Hunter which was nice but got bored of it and finally also had a Mage. So the healing class is my forte but I chose Guardian since I wanted a change of play obviously. I do however would like to fill any class needed/wanted so that your Kinship isn't filled up with too many of the same class hence reducing my chances of ever to participate in a raid instance and such.
  • Where did you hear of us? How did this appeal?
I heard of you on the LOTRO-Europe forum in the recruitment thread or thereabouts. I read the post and decided to go take a look on your website. This was important for me sicne I also needed to find a real/server to play on. It appealed to me because you have an actual vision for this Kinship. And set rules of course. I couldn't say anything more. I read it all and was really happy to see something like this.
  • How do you see yourself progress in the game, and in the guild? What do you see as your long-term role?
I'm a very social yet serious player. I love instances and raid instances. So I'll probably be working towards that. Doesn't mean I'll constantly be on "DND" because I'm leveling but I'm a raider at heart (not solely though!) and want to progress in the game.
As I stated before, I'm a social person. I love to chat on Ventrilo (or Teamspeak) and have fun with my -future- Kinship friends. I'm a group player. I don't care that much for loot but since I'll need it to progress as a character I'll probably need it sometimes. So my long-term role is team player, raider and aide. I care about people as long as I get the same respect back. So they can count on my help at any given moment.

  • Could you tell us a little about the other games you played, the guilds you were in and why you ultimately left?

Of course. I think i already mentioned the games. Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, Warhammer online and Age of Conan. But my main MMORPG was World of Warcraft. I was in a big casual guild called Unspeakable Villainy which split up and a raiding division started called Unspeakable Destiny. A very demanding guild but with friendly people. I left not very long thereafter since I had personal issues at the time and couldn't keep up with the current affairs / progression so my gear got outdated and they put my rank back to 'Social'. I decided to go solo until I found a small 20/25 member guild called Bulwark of Champions. They only did 10-man content but I enjoyed it thoroughly. I left them eventually and uninstalled the game.
Reason why I left? I got bored of the current community and attitude of most players. Which is very selfish and childish behaviour (on the whole).

Hope this is enough Abishai. Please let me know what to do with my character. I don't mind to keep it if you are low on Guardians but I also don't mind to re-roll and start a new class. You might say: David, please play whichever class suits you best. But as I told you earlier: I do it for guild progression and I'd also prefer a spot in raid instances when the time is right of course. So please do let me know!

Regards,
David

Thank you David :)

Really class wise we prefer people play something they really can delve into, feel at home in and get the most out of long term. We don't -need- a Guardian at the moment but this isn't to say one wouldn't fit in.

The most needed classes are Lore-master and Burglar, but both require a specific playstyle which you might not enjoy! Healing wise, Minstrel class is absolutely supreme and happens to also be great at PvP and Solo play, due to Warspeech.

The classes we need the least right now are Hunter/Champion as we definitely have enough activity in those currently. I'd say have a good read on the classes (Lotro Wiki is not bad to see skills/traits), and then try a few of them to level 10-15 or so to get a bit of a feel. Unfortunately most classes don't come to their right until much later, but it's still good to get an initial feel of the class and the direction it takes you.

As a person, I think you would fit right in. So if we find a class you are comfortable & happy with, and we can find a place for long-term in the raids, I really don't see a problem with inviting you for a trial. 8)

Thank you for the quick replies!

I have created:
male Elven Lore-master going by the name of: Ildrahn.

I noticed you wanted to invite me for a trial so please contact me ingame (I'm going online as we speak).

See you there!
David

ps. I tried playing the Minstrel and even though I like the healing classes the Minstrel just didn't seem right. Played it till level 11 on another server. But I'm going to try and enjoy the Lore-master. I like the "squishy" classes so I prefer this over the Burglar.

Hello, David. Looking forward to play with some more Dutchies... =)

Also, maybe later we can duo-level, when I get bored of my hunter and want to level my alt.

Hello Ythyn,

Nice to meet you! Sounds like a good idea.
I'm enjoying the Lore-master so far. Level 6 as we speak and it's a fun class. Reminds me of the Warlock in WoW but, yes, different.
How can I whisper any of you ingame? I can't it seems.

David.

It's a different command, although the /help file says /w should work. The command for whispering is /tell <player> <message>

I know this. I do /tell <charactername> <message> but I get an on-screen message that I should be either a friend of the character in question and/or a member of that particular kinship. I tried messaging Abishai on his/her character Vindicta but it didn't let me.

Aha, you're on a trial account. With a trial account, you can only whisper kinmates and friends, so you'll have to have others friend you first. Quite annoying, but probably stops a bit of gold seller spam.
