Karazhan Key / Attunement

In order to obtain the key / get attuned for Karazhan, you have to complete a quest chain. This quest chain sends you to a few instances which have entry quests of their own, so overal the process seems rather long. It is however quite simple - if you prepare yourself in advance.

In order to access certain instances required for the Karazhan key-quest chain, everybody needs to sort access to the following instances:

[b:e2d3a89927]Shadow Labyrinth[/b:e2d3a89927] in Auchindoun - Requires that a party member has a key, or you have a rogue with 350 lockpicking. The key is a drop from the last boss in [b:e2d3a89927]Sethekk Halls[/b:e2d3a89927], also in Auchindoun.

[url=http://www.wowwiki.com/Arcatraz][b:e2d3a89927]The Arcatraz[/b:e2d3a89927][/url] - In order to access this instance, you will need a [u:e2d3a89927]flymount[/u:e2d3a89927]. The party also needs a key possessed by a party member, or a rogue with 350 lockpicking. The key is obtained through a quest chain.

[b:e2d3a89927]Opening the Dark Portal[/b:e2d3a89927] in the [b:e2d3a89927]Caverns of Time[/b:e2d3a89927] in Tanaris. This requires everyone in your party to have successfully completed [i:e2d3a89927]Escape from Durnholde Keep[/i:e2d3a89927] in [b:e2d3a89927]Old Hillsbrad Foothills[/b:e2d3a89927].
[i:e2d3a89927]Escape from Durnholde Keep[/i:e2d3a89927] is part of a quest chain that starts with [i:e2d3a89927]To The Master's Lair[/i:e2d3a89927], which you obtain from Andormu outside of the [b:e2d3a89927]Caverns of Time[/b:e2d3a89927] itself.

You are now attuned for Karazhan and have the Violet Eye Quest Chain, which gives a nice ring for all classes - which gets upgraded as you gain more reputation with The Violet Eye. This is basically stuff that you do while you do Karazhan, so instead of worrying about it you make it go with the flow and take it as a bonus :)


Yes, this does mean you have to finish 8 (!) different instances to get attuned. As a guild we will organise 5-mans to get several people sorted but there is absolutely no doubt that some people will fall behind a little bit. I would highly appreciate it if these people get assistance later to sort it in a quicker fashion - some steps can be skipped by having people who already have keys.

Yes, it also means everyone has to save up for a flying mount. No flying mount, no way of entering Karazhan as you can't reach required instances.

My current plan is to schedule guild events based on the attunement progress, starting with Sethekk Halls once enough people to form a party are ready. Please let me know when you have completed a stage, so that in the progress chart above you can moved down and we can see how much progress everyone made!

As far as level requirements for the above instances go;
Sethekk Halls: 67+
Escape from Durnholde Keep: 66+
All others: 70

i'd say you want to be 68+ for it tbh.

Depends on your group, it is quite doable imo. It's harder for casters / mana users then for melee classes due to the lack of major breaks.

For those who haven't done it before: It is basically an escort quest but then for full instance duration - you hardly get any breaks and it is a constant race of keeping up with Thrall. (Yeah the very same Orc Chief of Ogrimmar)

Awesome instance, great fun - but you are only allowed to fail up to three times if I recall correctly. It doesn't revert back to the start but resumes at a semi-important save point.
Nevertheless too many fails and you start from scratch - best to avoid any mistakes at all.

By the time we do this some of us are 70 anyway, should be fine :)

Thrall seems to get about a bit. He's hanging about numerous places in Garadar village in Nagrand too :wink:

I reckon that we can try Sethekk Halls not this weekend but the weekend after, and then kick off the attunement process for 5 of us at once, see how far we get imo.
That sorts enough people with entry keys to Shadow Labyrinth and Arcatraz so that others don't *need* these to get keyed for Karazhan. (They can sort those quests if/when they feel like it in the future then, they are not a requirement for anyone but the first group)

Im looking forward to this, think its gonna be a blast. Nicely explained Peter. It helps a bit to know a little thing or two about whats coming. And as a sidenote, I have 335 in lockpicking now, highest I can get on my lvl, and if blizzard has put out enough lockboxes and stuff, 350 will not be a problem at lvl 70.

Can you post some of the Coords for the quest givers for these instances or where the chains start if there are.

For the instances, it is self explanatory and I will take a group of 5 (including me) through the whole process - after which these people can help the rest.

For the Karazhan chain, which everyone should strive to sort when they are 70, up to the point for the first fragment, see below: (links containt coords and everything)

It must be noted that once the process has been done by the first group, that only the quests in this post and the instances below have to be done by the rest - as they don't have to sort keys/access to the instances from other instances:
